Crackdown on illegal immigrants: Nine more Bangladeshis held for deportation

The Central District Police on Monday stated that it has apprehended nine Bangladeshi citizens living illegally in the national Capital for deportation. With this the number of illegal immigrants from the neighbouring country arrested in the last five days rose to over 50.

The Central District Police on Monday stated that it has apprehended nine Bangladeshi citizens living illegally in the national Capital for deportation. With this the number of illegal immigrants from the neighbouring country arrested in the last five days rose to over 50.

The crackdown on illegal immigrants is part of a two-month-long drive being carried out by the Delhi Police in compliance with LG’s directive to take action against the foreign nationals in Delhi.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) M Harshvardhan said, “Last year also we had apprehended 14 foreign nationals in the district and in the last five days, nine immigrants have been apprehended.”

Those arrested so far include those who entered the country illegally and also those who overstayed after the expiry of their visas, he said, adding that the action was followed by ground verification and immigration data of such illegally staying individuals, Harshvardhan elaborated.

The apprehended individuals were produced at the office of Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) R K Puram, and after completion of necessary documentation they were detained at the Centre in Inderlok, he mentioned.

The DCP added that the action is part of the initiative of the police to create a welcoming atmosphere for tourists entering legally in the capital city.

Moreover, police have set up tourist assistance booths to help and guide foreign nationals visiting historical and tourist places in Delhi.
